This project explores racial disparities within Indianapolis’s homeless population, where African American residents are significantly overrepresented despite comprising a smaller portion of the city’s total population. Research highlights systemic r ... acial exclusion from housing as a major contributor, with evictions, loan denials, and discriminatory housing practices disproportionately affecting African American residents. This analysis reveals a persistent racial gap in housing stability using homelessness data adjusted for population size. The findings emphasize the need for systemic change and direct support services to address these inequities. Proposed solutions include expanding access to affordable housing and embedding racial equity criteria into housing policy. Further recommendations include culturally competent case management and targeted financial assistance to improve housing stability for African American residents in Indianapolis. Read more
