My showcase is about transitioning into a new culture, focusing on personal growth and self-improvement. My journey at IU began alongside my internship at the Office of Student Employment (OSE) as a Career Services Intern. This experience has played ... a pivotal role in my college journey and in my transition as an international student into a different culture. As a first-generation student with the weight of family responsibilities and dreams on my shoulders, coming to college felt like climbing a mountain with a heavy backpack. I embraced these challenges with determination, and this internship experience has been instrumental in helping me face them. One of the most valuable aspects of my role as a Career Services Intern was serving as a peer mentor. This significantly improved my communication and interpersonal skills while allowing me to be a resource for fellow undergrad students navigating their professional paths. In addition to developing these transferable soft skills, I also gained confidence by presenting to 150+ students and their families during orientation to share information about OSE resources. Additionally, I engaged in tabling activities for outreach and to interact with both students and staff. I am a Counselor Intern at the Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation (CCPR) Extended School Enrichment (ESE) Program. I supervise children, facilitate club activities, and work with other counselors on management of groups of students.
